Michelle, I don't use an iphone to operate our thermostat; it's just a programmable talking thermottat.  I suggest you call Harry at talkingthermostats.com and tell him what you need.  He's very helpful and can tell you which is the best one for your needs.  That's what we did.
 Good luck!  BTW, we're going to Boston for a week.  If you send me a mailing address, I'll collect stuff for your kits for the homeless; if you still want them.  Lydia
