Hello All,

1. Please pick up the phone and call Senator Van Hollen. Ask him to
co-sponsor S732, the Access Technology Affordability Act. This act will
provide a refundable tax credit so that blind persons may purchase access
technology. Please make these calls Thursday or Friday, August 3 or 4. The
switchboard number 202-224-3121. If you prefer send an email. The important
thing is to do something . It is most embarrassing that he has not
co-sponsored this bill yet because Senator Cardin, our other Maryland
Senator, is a lead co-sponsor.
2. Buy your Crab Feast tickets now. The price goes up after August 12
to $60. Get them for $55 while they are hot. Go to nfbmd.org for further
information.
3. I am sorry to report that Diane Grant died on July 26. Diane had
been ill for many years and fought multiple sclerosis valiantly. She was a
member of the Central MD Chapter. Diane also worked for a time in the
customer service department at BISM. The viewing will start at 10:00 am
followed by memorial service at noon on Sunday, August 6. The church is the
Locust United Methodist Church. The address is 8105 Martin Rd, Columbia, MD
21044.
4. The deafblind committee will hold a conference call on Tuesday
August 8 at 7:30 pm. All are invited to attend. Please call 641-715-3272.
The access code is 720125. For further information contact Janice Toothman
at janice.toothman at verizon.net <mailto:janice.toothman at verizon.net> .
Thank you for your participation and assistance.
Sharon Maneki, President
National Federation of the Blind of Maryland

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back.
