Dear TLC Chapter Members and Friends,
The TLC Chapter is planning an in-person Social Activity and all are
invited. President Millie Rivera has graciously offered to host us at her
home for a potluck and movie night on Friday, May 31 starting at 6:30 PM.
Please bring a dish to share. If you are not sure what to bring, please
reach out to Millie and she will be happy to brainstorm with you.
After dinner we plan to watch a new documentary, unseen, which is a film
about an aspiring social worker, Pedro, who faces restrictions as a blind,
undocumented immigrant to get his college degree. But when attaining his
dreams leads to new challenges, he's faced with looming uncertainty. Using
experimental cinematography, unseen reimagines film accessibility through an
audio-centric experience. The version we will see will include open audio
description. Audio description narrates some visual elements of a video to
paint a more complete picture for a blind audience. You may watch the
trailer here: https://vimeo.com/flashcuts/review/834919004/8e4260333d.
The reason we have chosen to show this particular documentary is because
Conchita Hernandez Legorreta, an NFB member several of us know personally,
help create the film, not because we are endorsing any political stance on
immigration. NFB welcomes all political views; all individuals interested
in blindness issues are welcome. The documentary will also give anyone
unfamiliar with watching movies with audio description an opportunity to
experience this accessibility feature.
Millie's Address is 1330 Warwick Drive, Lutherville/Timonium MD 21093. If
you plan to come, please RSVP to Millie directly by May 29 and let her know
what you will be bringing; you may reach her by email at
millie.rivera0027 at gmail.com <mailto:millie.rivera0027 at gmail.com> or by
phone at 202-494-5687. We cordially invite you to join us and look forward
to seeing many of you there.
Warmly,
Ellen Ringlein, Secretary
National Federation of the Blind TLC Chapter
