[NFBMD] Clarification: Grant Writing Workshop

Folks,

The goal of this workshop is to provide some foundational training so people
can learn to write grant applications for the NFB of Maryland. If you're
interested in grant writing for your personal projects or interests, this is
not the seminar for you. In addition, chapters are not permitted to apply
for grants directly because the affiliate is the 501(c)(3), which is the
eligible entity. I appreciate your enthusiasm, which is incredible given
the amount of people who've reached out to me.

But we're going to start all over. This means, if you were one of the 45
people who emailed me in the last 24 hours, then assume you need to resubmit
your request to be considered should you still want to be considered given
this clarification.

The NFB of Maryland will be holding a virtual workshop that will be a high
level overview on grant writing to benefit the affiliate for future grant
applications we want to submit to fund NFBMD's work. The seminar will be on
October 23 at 7PM, and Seth Lamkin, NFB National's Grant Writer will lead
the seminar. I will select the individuals who will be invited to
participate, and individuals should let me know of their interest by October
1, 2024. Again, please only communicate your request to be considered for
this opportunity if you are also committing, if chosen, to volunteer to
write grant applications for NFB of Maryland. Please email me at
President at nfbmd.org <mailto:President at nfbmd.org> with your name, your
chapter/division, and a couple of sentences of why you wish to be chosen.

Now for those of you interested in grant writing for your own purposes, I'm
going to try to set something else up for you at the State Convention or
another event of that nature if I can find the right seminar leader. I've
heard from you about inaccessible grant application portals and other
barriers that exist for a blind person doing this work. Thus, I am
acknowledging I hear your hunger for strategies and approaches in light of
some of these barriers based on blindness.

Thanks,

Ronza

The National Federation of the Blind of Maryland knows that blindness is not
the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want;
blindness is not what holds you back
