THE FEDERATION FAMILY ADVANCES TOGETHER

> _"We come together as a national movement, and we bring together the
> diversity of blind people from all different parts of the country with
> different backgrounds to come to agreement about where we should go and
> how we should use our limited resources."_

President Mark Riccobono on how the national convention advances our
movement and brings the Federation Family together.

RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

We know that blind parents have been successfully raising children for
generations. Since there are aspects of blind parenting which take some
thought and there are specific alternative techniques blind parents use to
keep their children safe and happy, the Federation offers Resources for
Blind Parents [1]. Because it can be difficult to find resources and a
positive attitude when raising blind children, we developed Parents of
Blind Children resources [2].

As we reflect on families this month, we celebrate fathers and Father's Day
and all who help raise expectations for our children.

GENERATIONAL FEDERATIONISM

> _"Through being a member of the National Federation of the Blind I
> learned about Generational Federationism. I learned that a single totally
> blind mom can rear a confident low-vision and arthritic child. My
> daughter learned that there are thousands of blind people all over the
> world who do not allow vision loss to stop their lives or their dreams."_

May 2026 issue of the _Braille Monitor_ [3].

REFLECTIONS FROM A BLIND CAREGIVER OF A PARENT WITH DEMENTIA

As blind people we are most often seen as people needing help, not as those
providing help. We may internalize the expectation that we will not serve
as caregivers, and we may be uncertain about taking on such a roll. But the
network of the Federation can help us understand that blindness need not be
an impediment at all. Catherine shares tips and advice in "Finding Your
Blind Superpower: Reflections from a Blind Caregiver. [4]"

UNTIL NEXT TIME: JOIN AND SUPPORT US!

The national convention is our annual Federation Family reunion. If you
can't be with us in Austin, get involved by registering for the Virtual
Experience [5]. Help us rise to the challenge of raising $25,000 which will
be matched by Aira. Visit Give $25 to contribute [6] and be entered in the
convention drawing.

Thank you for helping us show the world that we can live and create the
lives we want. You are subscribed to our monthly community impact email,
where we share how we are advancing the lives of the Nation's blind. The
National Federation of the Blind is a network of members, friends, and
people like you who believe in the hopes and dreams of blind people.
