[NFBMDTLC-Chapter] Urgent: Calling on Federationists from Baltimore City and Baltimore County to Email Maryland Delegates About Our Legislative Priorities

Dear Colleagues in the Federation,

We need your help to pass the Accountability Act for Accessible K-12
Education.  If you have not done so already and you live in Baltimore City
or Baltimore County, please email  the Maryland Delegates and Senators
listed below. If you would like more background on theis legislation, please
refer to the attached factsheet. 

Tell the senators and Delegates that SB0617 and HB0547 will make the local
school system, the Maryland State Department of Education, and vendors
accountable for providing accessible information and communication
technology to students with disabilities. Accessibility has been the law for
many years, but it is not enforced. This bill will not only enforce
accessibility, but will also give students with disabilities the possibility
of receiving a quality education. 

In the Senate:
SB0617 was heard by the Education Health Environmental Affairs Committee on
Wednesday, January 16. Please get your emails in by Monday, February 21. 

SB0617:
Everyone should write to the chairman of the committee, Senator Paul Pinsky

If you live in Baltimore City, write to Senator Mary Washington at
mary.washington at senate.state.md.us 

If you live in Baltimore County, write to Senator Clarence Lam at
clarence.lam at senate.state.md.us 

In the House:
The House Ways and Means Committee  hearing for HB0547 will be on February
24. Please get your letters in by February 28.

HB0547:
Everyone should write to the chairman, Vanessa Atterbeary at
