James M. Shaker
SHAKER, James M. - Of Flint, age 84, died Saturday, December 13, 2008 at his
residence. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2008
(funeral
time announced later) at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Cremation will take place following the service. In lieu of flowers,
contributions
may be made to the Paul and Stephen Shaker Fund of the Hurley Foundation or
Leader Dogs for the Blind. Visitation 5PM-8PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
James was born in Flint on March 25, 1924. James attended the Michigan
School for the Blind. In 1948, he received his Bachelor's Degree at Michigan
State
University. In 1951, he graduated from the University of Michigan Law
School. James was an avid Ham Radio Operator (W8QLR). He was an audiophile
and also
enjoyed computers. James was an attorney for the Legal Aid Society and then
moved into his own private practice. James sat as a Judge for the 68th
District
Court from 1969 to 1986. Surviving are son, Lawrence Mark Shaker of
Southfield, MI; Sister, Marie Shaker of IL; Brother, Phillip Shaker of
Flint; Many
nieces and nephews; Former wife and lifelong friend, Ida Shaker; very dear
friend and neighbor, Jack Lince. He was preceded in death by his parents,
George
and Rose, sisters, Victoria, Madeline, and brothers, Edward and Cabalin. A
very special thanks to caregiver, Tammy and family friend Christine
Ecklesdafer.
