[nfbmi-talk] Only One More Week to Imagine

Hello List,

I just wanted to remind everyone that the Imagination Fund grant is due on September 1, 2010. This means that we have one week left to fill out the application. It seems as though there are a few good ideas floating around out there, but any final decisions on what they should be? As it turns out, we can apply for more than one grant, but it appears as though they all need the approval of the President in order to be considered by the grant committee.

So far, it looks as though the Youth Outreach, the state scholarship program, and Washington Seminar top out the favorites thus far. If we can apply for more than one grant, then why not write up a grant proposal for all three? I really don’t like to see us bicker back and forth about which program is the most deserving of a grant when all three are worthy causes within our organization.

The arguments for the youth outreach program and the student scholarship program have already been mentioned, but let me say a few words about Washington Seminar. February will be here before we know it, and our state treasury is currently low on funds. At this point in time, I can think of about five districts who will be electing someone new to represent their district. Since some of these new faces will be from districts where we do not have a lot of members, it will be important for us to establish a relationship with them during Washington Seminar.

But whatever we choose, we need to make a decision fast because we only have one more week to fill out the application for the grant. In the past, the deadline may have been September 15, but this year it is September 1. So let’s not pass up this wonderful opportunity to bring more funds into our state affiliate.

Elizabeth
