Eastern Market in Detroit is getting a $100,000 grant to promote the
availability

of healthy, Michigan-grown

food

.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan announced the new

funding

. She's a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee.

The grant was awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Farmers Market
Promotion

Program, which helps improve and expand farmers markets and community
supported agriculture

programs.

Stabenow says the grant and $123,000 in matching funding

funds

will be used to get more healthy food into Detroit-area neighborhoods and
improve

access to such food by those without transportation.
