[nfbmi-talk] mcb??

Hello Tonya,
There is a saying (like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic) that is
said when making incremental changes will not prevent the inevitable or
correct the incorrect path of the vessel, a metaphor for organization. In
the case of MCB the course is set in the wrong direction, so reorganizing or
somehow restructuring the reporting hierarchy will not make any difference
if the fundamental philosophical compass is not corrected. We will continue
to have clients told there is no money when there are millions of dollars of
unspent money in the accounts. College students will continue to be told
they must take out loans, even though the Rehab Act does not require that
they do. Students will be stuck with $11,000 debts with no offer to repay
them, even though the Commission gave incorrect information. We will
continue to work to reduce services to college students when a college
education is the best predictor of employability. We will continue to
reduce legally mandated services to BEP operators who wish to move even
though they are often making less than the minimum wage and cannot afford to
move their household across the state, even if for a better job. We will
continue to have the MCB director usurping power from the Commission Board
when, in fact, the board is his boss. We will continue to have information
withheld even though the law clearly requires the sharing of public
documents. Blind children will continue to be denied the opportunity to
learn Braille, even though the Commission law clearly states the MCB
Director shall coordinate all services to blind children in Michigan.
Highly qualified and hardworking blind people will be fired from the
Commission for being NFB members. Leaders in the Business Enterprise
Program will continue to be removed from the program because they are
leaders and are members of the NFB.
This is what I mean when I say that restructuring the MCB is like
rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. What is needed is for the
Commission Board to take its rightful roll as the policy setting body for
MCB, to focus on a philosophy that leads to doing whatever is necessary to
help blind people get good jobs and gain first-class citizenship, free from
discrimination and low expectation. I hope this helps.
Warm Regards,
Fred

Hey Fred this is Tonya. What the holy heck does the Titanic have to do with
the commission? The Titanic is a ship Fred, I saw the movie. What does, I
don't get it. What does the changing of the chairs have to do, I don't get
it. What does the changing of the chairs on the Titanic have to do with
anything. I don't get it. Perhaps why don't you come back and explain it to
me please. Because well, I don't mean to sound really rude, but that sounded
kind of really dumb.
