Home Modifications: Processes and Tools

Appropriate home modifications can help a person with a disability
perform daily activities. They can also enable people who are aging
into a disability to be able to stay in their homes longer. But what
types of accommodations are possible? How can you determine what
solutions will best fit a particular situation? What resources exist
to help with the process?

The Center for Assistive Technology and Environmental Access (CATEA)
at Georgia Tech will be offering its course: Home Modifications:
Processes and Tools starting September 7, 2011. It will run as a
series of three webcasts on subsequent Wednesdays, from 12:00-2:00 PM
(Eastern).
The course provides in-depth discussion about modifications that can
be constructed, installed, or implemented to enhance an individual's
safety and function in the home environment. This course provides an
overview of functional barriers commonly experienced in homes, legal
and policy issues that affect provision of services, and AT and
universal design strategies to improve performance of daily
activities. The course provides resources for assessing, identifying
and implementing modification needs.

This beginning-to-intermediate-level course is appropriate for people
providing rehabilitation services as well as for people designing or
building living spaces. Continuing education credits will be
provided.
