Detroit— A large chunk of 100-year-old plaster fell this morning from the ceiling of the lobby at

Cadillac

Place, the home of 1,800 state workers in the New Center area.

"Nobody got hit, nobody got hurt," said Keith Paasch, director of building operations for the

Michigan

Department of Technology, Management and Budget.

The collapse has forced the state to close the Grand Boulevard entrance to the lobby and divert traffic to the east and west sides of the building, Paasch

said.

The decorative plaster, put up when the building was built about a century ago, fell just after 8 a.m., Paasch said. Not many people were in the lobby at

the time.

A number of state offices are in the building, including unemployment, the

secretary of state ,

the attorney general and workers compensation. It is located off Grand, just west of Woodward.
