Communications ManagerReporting to the Director of Donor and Public Relations,
the Communications Manager is responsible for creating, implementing and
managing communications for and about The Seeing Eye and its programs.

For over 80 years, The Seeing Eye has enhanced the independence, dignity and
self-confidence of people who are blind through the use of Seeing Eye ®
dogs—carefully breeding and training dogs, matching dogs and their blind
owners, and training them to work together as a mutually supportive team. From
its inviting 65-acre campus outside Morristown, N.J., and a nearby
state-of-the-art breeding station, The Seeing Eye’s 180-member staff matches
and trains about 275 teams of graduates and dog guides each year.
The Seeing Eye is distinguished by the clarity of its purpose, the excellence
of its program, the strength of its finances, and the stability of its
leadership. Its $25 million annual expense budget is supported by annual
giving, bequests and a $190 million endowment. This is an exceptional
organization, proud of its history and determined to preserve the culture of
respect and dignity for which it is known.
Duties of the position: Develop key communication strategies that are
implemented across all communication vehicles, including direct mail,
printed/digital materials and public relations messages for the media. Write
and edit print and online publications targeting key groups of individuals that
will provide compelling communications that inspire specific actions. Develop
and produce videos. Responsible for content of the organization's magazine,
annual report, e-newsletters, brochures and other collateral materials. Provide
communications support to President and other leadership members in the form of
letters, presentations, announcements and other materials.Develops new
approaches to garner publicity/awareness for The Seeing Eye.Oversees/maintains
organization archives.
Requirements:Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a
minimum of five years of demonstrated success in communications, journalism or
related experience.Must possess strong feature and news writing skills with
exceptional ability to write compelling material that is persuasive and
inspiring.Meticulous attention to style guidelines (AP or UPI), grammar and
punctuation.Experience in electronic media including social media, online
publications, and website content.Experience in magazine production, including
conceptualizing, writing, and overseeing photography, design, printing and
distribution. Experience with annual report production a plus.Experience in
media relations/public relations.Experience supervising a team of
employees.Ability to communicate to and work collaboratively with multiple and
diverse constituencies, tailoring organizational messages accordingly.Ability
to write, communicate, and operate under pressure and tight deadlines with
accur!
acy and professionalism.The successful candidate must be efficient,
approachable, possess a professional demeanor, capable of effectively engaging
others and demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the organization.

Outreach Specialist
Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager, the Outreach Specialist reaches out
to prospective students and to the general population through various public
speaking engagements that focus on providing education about The Seeing Eye.
The Outreach Specialist also plays a role in donor relationship-building in
cities to which he/she travels.

Lead the Orientation and Mobility, Seeing Eye Seminars for Youth (SESY) and
public tour programs.Plan/conduct educational outreach programs to the general
population in schools and other local organizations (e.g., Lions clubs) in the
U.S. and Canada and represent The Seeing Eye at these events.Develop and
coordinate local marketing program to create awareness of the organization and
engage local businesses to support The Seeing Eye.Develop and maintain annual
Outreach plan and calendar.

Requirements:Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a
minimum of three years of related experienceActive Seeing Eye graduate strongly
preferredStrong public speaking skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability
to build relationships and trust with others; strong organizational and
planning skillsPossess a professional demeanor with high ethical standards and
personal integrityStrong communication skills both verbal and
writtenWillingness to travel up to 40% of time
