Subject: BARD Administration Transfer
Dear BARD Patrons,
Since late April 2009, The National Library Service for the Blind and
Physically Handicapped of the Library of Congress has managed the BARD
Program (Braille and Audio Reading Download).
Beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 the Michigan Commission
for the Blind, Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL) will assume all
management and operational responsibilities for the administration of
patrons subscribing to and downloading books and magazines from the NLS BARD
service. BARD users in this Region can expect to see the BTBL branding on
the BARD site moving forward.
BTBL staff will take over administrative responsibilities that include:
* Approving BARD applications from all eligible Regional readers within two
business days, modifying accounts as necessary, and transferring patron
information between network libraries.
* Approving patron requests to authorize third-party digital players.
* Maintaining internal readership records.
* Resetting passwords. Provide support for downloading a digital book and
saving it to a cartridge or thumb drive from a personal computer.
* Respond to e-mail, telephone, and in-person requests from patrons in a
timely manner.
Call 1-800-992-9012 or visit www.michigan.gov/btbl to find the BTBL BARD
application link: www.nlsbard.loc.gov/mi1a
Contact Scott Norris, norriss5 at michigan.gov, or 517-373-5516 for technical
support.
Sincerely,
The BTBL BARD Team
