Hi Fred,

Thanks. The web person didn't write me. I wrote to another contact I had in
my address book and she did write back. I mentioned the braille signage in
my class and folks agreed that it would be good to have the bathroomsmarked
for the blind and I mentioned the cognitively impaired We have a good
institute and they just got over a million to expand the pottery studios.
Years ago, they did have a class for the handicapped and it sounded fun. I
have never seen it mentioned since. Perhaps I should bring it up, inclusion
is great for some folks. The big problem for many is transportation and the
cost. The class is $210 for 12 weeks and that is the members cost. I never
got any therapy after that episode of depression. I was basically kicked out
before I could start. I figure that this is the best kind of therapy for
me. Will it become more than that? I am not sure at this point. It is an
expensive hobby to do at home and then I am so busy with Newsline.

I think I am better off in class at this point.

Speaking of Newsline, have you had a chance to call those folks? To be most
helpful, it is easier to call them soon after they sign up because they get
frustrated, lose their Newsline packet etc. When they register, I call up
newsline before hand, put in some favorites, slow the speech down and if I
have an email address, I email them the files and their codes. If someone
doesn't have an email, I will ask them if they want tape or cd instructions.
People have been getting frustrated with that how to guide. I tell them it
is a reference guide and the instructions should be read perhaps one or two
lessons --whatever works for them.
and I will show them how to get to the instructions on the main menu.

Generally for every subscriber, I will help then access and or change
their favorites and teach them to access publications, set up their tv.
Many times, this requires more than one call.

I need volunteers to help do this. It is a hard area to get volunteers to
do. I keep up with it as best as I can. Some folks are impossible to reach
in person and then sometimes I cannot find their phone number. We still
don't get their phone when they sign up with the library. Sue is helpful
with this but other librarians are not.

Take care,
Georgia
