Michigan Commission for the Blind Board Meeting September 15-16 in Lansing



September 12, 2011 − The Michigan Commission for the Blind (MCB) will hold its quarterly board meeting in Lansing on Thursday and Friday, September 15 and 16, at Constitution Hall, Conference Room A/B, 525 West Allegan.  The meeting will be in session Thursday 12-3 p.m. and Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.  The meeting is open to the public and will be of interest to MCB consumers, rehabilitation professionals, and others interested in the agency’s programs, services, and related topics.



Highlights of the meeting will include information on the commission’s 2012 State Plan, an update on the MCB Training Center renovations and its new technology center, regular reports from MCB staff, and opportunities for public comment.



To listen to the commission board meeting by phone on Thursday and Friday, please dial 1-877-873-8017 and enter passcode 7502991#.  In addition, live audio streaming of the board meeting will be available Friday on the MCB website at www.michigan.gov/mcb.  Public comment may be submitted by e-mail from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16, to mcbpubliccomments at gmail.com to be read at 1:00 p.m.  Emails received outside of the 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. time frame are not considered part of Public Comment.  Public Comment is limited to three minutes per individual.



The meeting site is accessible.  Individuals attending the meeting are requested to refrain from using heavily scented personal care products in order to enhance accessibility for everyone. People with disabilities requiring additional accommodations (such as materials in alternative format) in order to participate in the meeting should call Sue Luzenski at (517) 335-4265 by September 13, 2011.



The commission’s five-member policy board, appointed by the governor, oversees MCB programs throughout Michigan. For more than 30 years, the Michigan Commission for the Blind has provided training and other services for individuals who are blind or visually impaired to achieve independence and/or employment in the careers of their choice, serving approximately 2,750 state residents in fiscal year 2010.
