[nfbmi-talk] Faith Meadows Letter

One year ago I was part of the protest about the firing of Christine.

At 63 yeas old, losing my vision to RP, there was a need to change my
lifestyle. Going to the Learning Center was the best thing I did for
myself. There was no support groups near me and seeing others born
blind was an inspiration. The teachers made me feel good and independent.

Two issues though: After considering the option to return to the work
force and chosing not to, it was still important to find a cost
effective and user friendly screen reader. If giving the opportunity,
it is my desire to volunteer what was freely provided by members of the
System Access Mobile Network to others. This sister program of SA made
me feel strong with all their tips and friendship.

When attending the November convention in Kalamazoo there should be a
way for any Learning Center students to volunteer what we have learned
after finishing our courses.

The second is just what is being said from students attending the job
portion of your program. For those born blind, they had a feeling
teachers were not helping keep them independent. May have said this
badly but shouldn't they be praised for what they already know and
provide training using what they already live with. Naturally for
those new to vision lose, they require instructions from the beginning
phase of the program.

Hope this helps since it is important that others receive the same
support provided to me.
