Where were advocates when the blind fought for the right to read and write
through Braille at the time? Where were the advocates when the blind worked
to be seen and to travel in public? Where were the advocates who fought for
us to become teachers of others who are blind themselves or to have even a
stipend or an independent form of living? Where were the advocates who
fought for these things and more? They were in some cases prior to the
National Federation of the Blind, but before that they weren't as good as
conditions were people who were blind speaking for the blind. And even after
that whether from the organized blind of either NFB or ACB all
accomplishments in the integrated environment were made because of the
efforts of advocates, again whether or not they affiliated with either org
or any individual.

Where was Helen Keller's accomplishments when she had a loving, but
non-advocate parent trying to dictate his terms upon her ultimate
enlightenment and ultimate liberty? Think about that sir! Think about it all
and think about it long and hard in spite of the times and the context and
all those things, and mixed feelings we all have about this segment of our
history.

My personal accomplishments for example are do to a very large degree to
many who came before me and that includes advocates and those organizations
with whom I sometimes disagree. My accomplishments also have a whole lot to
do with the fact, and it is a fact that I was more accomplished; and I was
more considerred and I was more acknoleged, etc., etc. , etc. when I was
what? Well, "Sighted."

That was and is a fact Jack.

That will go again to your offspring who should be her own advocate But, for
all the years you've been on this and other list I've known of you, sir
frankly havn't contributed anything but to leave.

I know it's got to be tough being a parent of a blind child. I know for I am
a blind parent of a child with other disabilities. And I know because I'm
frigging blind for crying out loud what it is like to be blind.

I'm not trying to ream you sir here, but you in your public actions have
caused yourself to be grist for our mill.

Actually before I vent more fully how is your offspring? I hope she is
fulfilled and living a life just like anyone else who is not sighted. I
really do.

I hope that all might be all they can be in spite of blindness or other
disabilities for that matter. That is my personal dedication upon this
planet, my personal religion and my dedication.

.

The arrogance, and the self delusional arrogance of some who think we don't
stand on the shoulders of giants, in spite of personal flaws and other
considerations, is self defeating.

I have made it public for example my objections to certain practices and
actions and, even excesses, in my mind of both NFB and ACB.

What of it when the rubber meets the road?

Shit, I and none of us would be anywhere but in an asyliam if others hadn't
fought for better.

And if you can't figure that out then the next generation of blind folks
will be doomed to be denigrated and exploited and abused and you, the
non-committed and, and you the non-aligned and you, the, "blamers of the
message and not the message itself," will have the blood of our future on
its hands.

This is not to say that I have all the answers for I do not. This is not to
say that I am the be all and end all of all things blind or even human for
that matter for I am not.

This is to say that some of us and indeed actually all of us have a voice
and that voice has been systematically stifled over years, indeed for
centuries, to abuse us and even to kill us. And even when most benign it has
been used to limit and to diminish us, for the sighted world in many
instances just doesn't want us as equal parterres.

Group,

It has been interesting, but I am unsubscribing from this list.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Keep in mind there is a legally blind citizen of michigan doing well earning
a livable wage and willing to advise any other visually impaired person who
seeks advice.

It is not an easy road, but it can be traversed with decent results.

The offical document sir is thematter at issue here and, by the way are all
the sup and nuts and such that went in tothe original EO.

We are not children of a lessor god here! We are supposed to be citizens
endowed at a very minimum of the fundamental right to at least know of
governmental activity at the first instance. Anything less is an
abomonitation to the democratic process.

I know you Mr. sontag thinks around the sad lines that divides the right and
left.

Man, we can't even play a football game without regulated rules yet this
government here thinks it can make it up as it goes along when it comes to
those who are blind.

What a freaking crokc against fundamental democracy that is.

And to think that all I was saying was that the "recall" thing as applied to
e-mail sent outside of a particular system is not solikely to succeed. Love
to see what was in it. I'll do my judging when that happens or when the
official document leaks out.

Precisely what is the “message” Mr. Cannon wished and apparently re-called
somehow?

This was a most public correspondence about most public actions and we the
public have the right to know including we who are blind in a timely manner
and effective format. Since this was sent out on Cannon’s own state owned
computer it is subject to FOIA and since it was digital in the first
instance (my most effective format) I am requesting this now. Not yesterday
and not with stalling, and not with an abuse of the ADA’s or 504’s “undue
hardship” provisions for there are clearly no hardships of this
multi-million, federally funded agency at play here folks!

In addition as it is clear that there will be and are changes to the
Executive Order 2012—2 involved here I wish to know precisely what the
contents of the new Executive Order will be so that I, a citizen of this
state and this Republic can decide for himself if they are in accordance
with applicable state and federal laws..

Oh if you want to stall around this issue then think of the damages re:
Detroit Free Press v. City of Detroit amongst others.

In other words as an editorial comment I am sick to death personally of all
the government secrecy going on in this state and it doesn’t go just to this
issue, but regardless is germane to it nonetheless.

In this case we have substantial violations of the Americans with
Disabilities Act of 1990, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended, the
Michigan Open Meetings Act, the Michigan Freedom of Information Act and
Public Act 260 going on like they are violations on steroids.

This must end. It must end now.

I am willing, able and will sue if need be for it all to end too!

So give this information up!

It is time for secret government in Michigan and secrecy relative to
federally funded programs for the blind and others with other disabilities
to end as well.

It is as simple as that!

Sincerely,

Paul Joseph Harcz, Jr.
