Departments of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, and Human Services Summarize Public Comments Made at Recent 2013 Michigan Rehabilitation Services State

Plan Public Meetings

 

July 19, 2012 - The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS), and the Michigan Department of

Human Services (DHS) held public meetings July 9-11, 2012 to receive comments on the proposed FY 2013 State Plan for Vocational Rehabilitation Services

and the State Supported Employment Services Program. The proposed State Plan implements provisions of Executive Order 2012-10 including MRS transfer to

DHS and establishment of Order of Selection for Services (OSS). This State Plan will be submitted for final approval to the United States Department of

Education, Rehabilitation Services Administration now that public comment has been received.

 

The proposed FY 2013 State Plan is posted on the Michigan Rehabilitation Services website at

www.michigan.gov/mrs.

  Executive Order 2012-10 is posted on Governor Rick Snyder's website at

www.michigan.gov.

 

Comments were taken at the public meetings and via e-mails received after the public meetings and can be summarized as follows:

• A general opposition to MRS implementing Order of Selection for Services (OSS) due to expectations of increased program costs; decreased customer outcomes,

and potential for all applicants not being served

• Urged increased funding for MRS

• Positive feedback on MRS services - recognized as effective program, and recognized efforts made to reduce program costs

• Encouraged further efficiencies

• Concerns about public meeting accessibility and inadequate notice of hearings.
