Double tap the home button. The app switcher will come up. Then, find the first app you want to close. Then, double tap and hold on that icon. You're hear 3 small tones followed by VO saying "Editing Apps." Do a normal double tap on the app and it will close and the icon will disappear from the app switcher. You can now do a normal double tap gesture to each app you want to close and it will do so. When you're done, press the home button to close the app switcher, or just double tap the dismiss app switcher and it will close. Note. If you double tap and hold on an app from the home screen and proceed to do a normal double tap on it, it will ask you if you want to delete said app. Hope this helps.
