WILTON — A woman entrusted with caring for an 82-year-old legally blind widow has been indicted for allegedly siphoning more than $300,000 from the woman's
bank accounts.
Michele Rose was indicted on a total of 46 felonies for allegedly stealing $328,974 from the woman, the Saratoga County District Attorney's office said
Friday.
Rose was hired to look after her victim after the woman's husband died in 2005. Beginning that year, Rose started to slowly drain her victim's life savings,
the district attorney's office said. Rose wrote checks for thousands of dollars to herself, transferred money out of the woman's bank accounts and used
her credit cards, the district attorney's office said.
Rose obtained her victim's personal identification numbers and other personal information by opening her mail, Saratoga County District Attorney
James Murphy
said.
The woman was unaware Rose was stealing from her, Murphy said.
Rose, 49, of 214 Jones Road #82, Saratoga Springs, was indicted on one count of grand larceny, 13 counts of identity theft and 16 counts of both forgery
and criminal possession of a forged instrument. She is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
