Minutes , National Federation of the Blind of Michigan Board Meeting February 21, 2013 8:30 P.M.

 Quorum Larry Posont, Joe Sontag, Terri Wilcox, Mark Eagle, Nick Wilcox, Mary Wurtzel, Dave Robinson and Sarah Norwood. 

Joe Sontag called the meeting to order. 

Secretary's Report, Terri Wilcox. Mary Wurtzel moved to adopt the Secretary's Report. Nick Wilcox seconded the motion. The Secretary's Report was adopted. 

Treasurer's Report, Mark Eagle. Mark turned everything into the bank and submitted his first report to the National office. The Newsline account has $1,783.26. The general fund has $83,398.63. Terri Wilcox moved to adopt the Treasurer's Report. Sarah Norwood seconded the motion. The Treasurer's Report was accepted.  

Introduction of participating members.

Newsline, Larry Posont. A meeting between Larry Posont and Ed Rogers has been scheduled for next week. Most likely, Scott White will participate. We are just under 3,000 Newsline subscribers.

LEGISLATION, Joe Sontag. A Valentines gift from the Legislature was given to the National Federation of the Blind of Michigan. Work to welfare! House Bill 42566 exempts the Legislature from the Randolph Sheppard Program. According to Public Act 260 no Federal or State buildings were exempted. It is suggested that we get appointments with the House Government Operations Subcommittee. Legislators are being told that the State Plate is not open due to sanitation. The current chairman is Pete Lund. The date of the next committee meeting is not known. The sponsors are not likely to withdraw the bill.

Space Available, H.R. 146 has 42 cosponsors and a companion bill S346 is introduced. The Subminimum Wage Bill needs sponsorship from Dingell. John Conyers has cosponsored the bill. Currently, there are 8 cosponsors. The Technology Education Accessibility College and Higher Education bill is the hardest sell but people are asking for information. 

OLD Business: 

Sarah Norwood knows of a company for cinnamon almonds. Sarah Norwood will find out how much is wanted for a case of cinnamon almonds. Larry Posont followed through on a Leadership Seminar from the National office for Michigan. 

 New Business: The Grand Rapids Chapter will be organized the first or third week end of April. Other areas such as Flint or Flushing may be good for future chapter organization. 

Sarah Norwood moved to adjourn at 9:21. Dave Robinson seconded the motion. The motion was adopted.
