Revamped state agency seeks to improve services for the blind

By Current State

Braille reading materials are among the services provided by the Michigan
Bureau of Services for Blind Persons.

Very few of the books published every year come out in a version that is
accessible to the millions of people who are visually impaired. Earlier this
year,

a treaty to address the problem was finalized. It's called "The Marrakesh
Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons who are Blind,
Visually

Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled."

What sorts of books and services are available to Michigan's blind and
visually impaired residents?

Ed Rodgers, the first Director of the state's new

Bureau of Services for Blind Persons,

is himself visually impaired. He tells Current State that the U.S. Senate
still hasn't ratified the treaty.
