Job Description
The Department of State is looking for honest, motivated, and hardworking
individuals
with a positive attitude and strong ethical standards to join our team!
To provide management and supervision to the staff of the Driver Education
Section,
and to provide oversight and direction for the department's public and
private driver
education program, including the licensing, compliance and oversight of
teen, adult
and truck driver education program providers and instructors. The Driver
Education
Section is responsible for the management and administration of statewide
programs
that enhance the education and safety of novice drivers as they participate
in learning
experiences to attain knowledge and skills for becoming responsible and safe
operators
of motor vehicles. Position participates in legislative analysis as needed,
including
drafting legislation. Directs special projects and functions as the expert
and resource
person to department staff, the driver education and training communities
and the
public on driver education and training issues.
The preferred candidate will possess the following:
Experience managing a staff of two or more professionals
Experience working in a traffic safety related field
Ability to thoroughly understand and critique driver education and other
traffic
safety curricula
Strong skills in the following: written and oral communications, analytical
ability,
problem solving, conflict resolution, and interpersonal relations

Required Education and Experience:
Education
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
Experience
Four years of professional experience, including two years equivalent to the
experienced
(P11) level or one year equivalent to the advanced (12) level.
Selective Position Requirement (SPR)
Four years of experience with evaluating instructor led educational
curriculums specific
to traffic safety.
Alternate Education and Experience:
ALTERNATIVE EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
2 years of Dept of State Branch Supervisor 11 experience
OR
2 years of MDOS Departmental Supervisor 11 experience*
OR
1 year of MDOS Departmental Supervisor 12, 13, or 14 experience*
*Experience in driver and vehicle program areas, to include services that
involve
the interpretation of driver and vehicle records.
Additional Requirements and Information:
Must be able to obtain and maintain certification as a Teen Driver Education
Instructor.
Equivalent combinations of nonprofessional experience, identified by the
appointing
authority and approved by Civil Service that are represented by subclass
codes, will
be accepted for classified, professional experience equivalent to the P11
level and
above. The nonprofessional experience must be related to departmental
programs and
services that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Civil Service Commission Rule 2-7 requires that all newly hired state
employees submit
to and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to their actual appointment.
Due to the nature of work of the Department of State, criminal and driving
records
will be checked.
