This forwarded message comes from the other side, so to speak. And I
do feel bad for what ACBI is experiencing in Indiana. But it also is
darkly humorous. Most amazing to me is that this lady finds the
following to be "shocking"--as if she just woke up from a 20-year
slumber reminiscent of Rip Van Winkle. . Just thought it worth
sharing.

Subject: [indiana-l] Shocking Announcement about our ACB affiliates
and	chapters!!
To: indiana-l at acb.org

This has to be the most shocking announcement, the most shocking discovery,
I have ever made concerning our ACB affiliates and chapters!!!

I have discovered that our affiliates and chapters are doing nothing!

Shocking is an enormous understatement!

Our ACB affiliates and chapters are not conducting any special events of any
kind, nor have they in the last several years!

Nothing to further public education about blindness!

No participation in any community events

They have not conducted a single fundraiser of any kind that involved the
public or their local community!

Absolutely nothing!!

If I am wrong, then, I challenge all of our ACB affiliates and chapters to
submit a brief narrative of what you have done to the PR Committee so you
can be recognized for what you have done, your special event. We want to
recognize your affiliate or chapter during our session at the 2014 ACB
National Conference & Convention this summer in Las Vegas.

Has your affiliate or chapter conducted a particularly successful event,
such as a membership drive, outreach activity or fundraiser, or perhaps a
webinar or seminar? Did you run a media campaign or participate in a
community event that created awareness of your organization and what it is
all about? Did your affiliate or chapter create an informative video?

If so, the PR committee wants to know about your especially successful
special events that your affiliate or chapter has conducted since January 1,
2011 to the present. At this point, we have very few submissions, and we
know our affiliates and chapters must be doing more than these very few
submissions would indicate. If you are doing special event kinds of things
that deserve recognition, then, let us know about them! The best submissions
will receive special recognition during our 2014 ACB National Conference &
Convention in Los Vegas and be awarded one of our beautiful certificates
that you can take back home and show off to your members and everyone!

We are inviting affiliates and chapters to submit a description of some type
of successfully conducted event carried out by your organization since
January 1, 2011 to the present. We especially encourage the kinds of events
that involved the general public and contributed to public education about
blindness, or maybe raised funds to support your organization. Did your
organization participate in a parade, or a fair, or conduct an exhibit of
accessible devices, or conduct some kind of fundraiser, like a trivia night
event or a chili supper or musical concert or some other type of special
event?

If so, ACB's PR Committee is inviting you to submit a description of your
event to be considered for special recognition in a session during the 2014
national conference & convention in Las Vegas. Your submission should be no
more than 300 words. If the PR committee needs more information or detail,
we will request it. Your submission should include the following
information:

1. The name of your organization

2. What is the full contact information for the person or people we
can contact if we need more information?

3. What type of event was it?

4. Describe the event.

5. What was the target audience(s)?

6. When and where did the event take place?

7. What were your reasons or goals for conducting the event?

8. To what extent were your goals achieved?

9. How many of your organization's members assisted and/or
participated in conducting your event?

We will carefully evaluate each submission and select the most outstanding,
the most impressive, and the most unique for special recognition during the
2014 ACB national conference and convention in Las Vegas. However, there is
no limit to the number of affiliates or chapters that will be recognized if
your special event is worthy of recognition.

For more information, or to submit your event for consideration, contact Ann
Chiappetta or Ron Milliman, by email, at pr-committee at twc.com, or call (914)
393-6605. The deadline for submissions is May1, and you need to get started
immediately to be sure you have plenty of time. Early submissions are
especially encouraged! So, do it now!
