Kalamazoo Klassic takes place Saturday story image

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Kalamazoo Klassic 5-K and 10-K races speed down the Maple Street Hill in Kalamazoo, Saturday morning.

 

Our own Keith Thompson will start the race.

 

There are also 1-K and 2-K Kids Klassic races on Friday night.

 

The event is a partnership between the Kalamazoo Area Runners and MRC Industries, a non-profit that assists hundreds of people with disabilities, to gain

skills for employment.

 

"It brings everybody together in a common cause to support this event, cheer on the runners, generate excitement and enthusiasm. It's a way that the volunteers

here at MRC can give back to the organization," said Bonnie Sexton.

 

About 1,200 runners and walkers are already registered.

 

Organizers say there's still time to sign up.
