Uber drops driver who refused guide dog

A woman who is blind with a light coloured lab as her guide dog normally

uses taxis, but has recently been trying Uber. She has a very small amount

of residual vision.

On Tuesday night, she arranged for an Uber pickup. A car pulled up to the

curb in front of her, she put her hand on the door handle, and the driver

suddenly revved the engine and pulled away, she thinks because he saw her

guide dog. She got an Uber message about 10 seconds later that her pickup

had been cancelled, so she feels confident it was the same driver.

Uber responded to a television news reporter that it had immediately

dropped the "driver partner" from their app after the incident, stating

"The Uber app is built to expand access to transportation options for all,

including users with visual impairments and other disabilities. It is

Uber's policy that any driver partner that refuses to transport a service

animal will be deactivated from the Uber platform, which has

been done in this case."
