[nfbmi-talk] To Larry re: guide dogs stories.

Calli and Q are a matched guide dog and person pair. He performs all the normal functions of a guide dog, but because he goes to school with her he actually was trained for that. He also knows how to jump out the back of a bus for emergency bus evacuation and he learned to pull a wheelchair for the two weeks she was in Oneidas year.

MIRA in Quebec trains the dogs and students for MIRA USA. Over 20 years ago they did the psychological testing to figure out what ages, skills and maturity markers youth needed to have to be able to use a guide dog properly. They have never had an accident or a pair refusal. They use Bernese Mtn Dogs, Labs, and St Pierre's, a breed originally from crossing Labs and Bernese.

Calli is the first in MI and all the states that border MI to get a guide dog, in 2012. Q is very handsome black Lab.

I may not be perfectly wise, perfectly witty, or perfectly wonderful, but I am always perfectly me. Anon.
