Subject: Blindness-centered accessible art event at MSU Broad Museum

Dear leaders in the mid-Michigan blindness community, I invite you to join
members of the MSU community on Friday, November 10 at 5:00PM at the shiny
new Broad Art Museum on Grand River Avenue in East Lansing. You know
first-hand how often museums have policies that prevent blind and visually
impaired individuals from fully enjoying the art experience (no touch). This
event, Accessible Art at Broad event, "Sense of Self", changes that as it is
a fully hands and ears-on event hosted by the museum and created by MSU
students intent on ensuring blind and visually impaired community members
are fully engaged at the museum. The exhibit will involve Braille, sound,
touch and technology. Bring your iPhone either running the latest iOS 11 or
a QR code reader app installed and you'll be audio linked to each exhibit as
well.

I'm going to be there and I hope you can join me as well. Additionally,
please share this in your networks, the price is right (it is free) and our
presence at these sorts of events let's museum leaders know we are here and
interested in accessing museums.

On Friday, November 10 from 5-8 p.m., a one-night interactive exhibit at the
Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum will feature student-generated art that
bridges painting and poetry. The special installation is designed to engage
viewers across the visual ability spectrum. Blind and sighted guests are
invited to experience the artwork with their eyes and their hands, as each
art piece contains tactile elements inspired by Braille poems.

The event is hosted by Exceptions, an MSU-based literary journal that
features interviews and creative works by individuals in the visually
impaired community.
