[nfbmi-talk] NFB Of Michiana On Social Media

In my previous e-mail this afternoon, I pointed out that the Michiana
chapter in the National Federation of the Blind uses social
media--specifically Facebook and Twitter--both to promote our own
events and to highlight certain political developments and social
trends that our board members believe blind persons and those who care
about us, could benefit from knowing about.

So If you are fairly new to this mailing list, it might occur to you to ask
something like: What social media? How can I see what you are doing?

You can find the NFB of Michiana Facebook page by visiting
https://www.facebook.com/NFB-of-Michiana-412752602094987/. Just click
on our page, read our recent posts, and--if you like what you find
there--be sure to let the world know by hitting the "Like" button on
our Facebook page. Don't forget, too, that you can add in your own
feedback by posting to our timeline, sending us an instant message,
commenting on NFB of Michiana's posts, promoting and attending our
events, sharing our page with your own friends, and sometimes
answering a poll question or two.

And what about Twitter? You can find us there, too: @nfbofmichiana or
https://twitter.com/nfbofmichiana. Be sure to follow our Twitter
feed. For one thing, because we retweet things that other chapters,
divisions, and affiliates of the National Federation of the Blind post
on their own Twitter feeds, following @nfbofmichiana will give you a
quick, up-to-date glimpse of issues and happenings that are resonating
with lots of Twitter subscribers across the Federation. If you're
especially interested in a given point of discussion, it's easy just
to click on a tweet and get more details about an issue or event
important to someone in the organized blind movement--sometimes things
that go beyond just what is happening in the Federation alone.

One of the worst things for blind people is to find ourselves isolated
from one another. But with a smartphone or computer and an Internet
connection, you never have to feel as though you're alone. Chances
are, if you're going through something, lots of others have gone
through that thing first. Asking for help or putting in your own two
cents' worth is something you can do 24×7×365.

Let's band together and make sure the world knows it's respectable to
be blind in Michiana.

Yours in the bond,

Kane Brolin, President
Michiana Chapter, National Federation of the Blind
