Good day Federation family and friends,
As we prepare for the 2024 National Federation of the Blind of Michigan
(NFBMI) State Convention, we are excited to share some of the key highlights
you won't want to miss! The event kicks off on October 31, and in the weeks
leading up to it, we will be posting information from sponsors and
exhibitors like Non-24, one of our platinum sponsors who will be holding a
breakout session at the convention. Keep an eye out for these updates to
learn more about other amazing products, services, and opportunities that
will be available during the event. This year's convention promises to be a
memorable experience filled with networking, learning, and opportunities to
support the blind people's movement. As always, we encourage you to share
information about our state convention with your family and friends! If you
are posting on social media, please use our hashtag for this year, which is

One of the important sessions at this year's convention will focus on
Non-24-Hour Sleep Wake Disorder (Non-24), a serious chronic disorder that
disrupts a person's circadian rhythm and can lead to irregular sleep-wake
cycles. Up to 70% of people who are totally blind may have Non-24 without
even realizing it. Signs of Non-24 include trouble falling asleep, staying
asleep, daytime sleepiness, and waking up feeling groggy or tired.
To learn more about this disorder, its causes, and how to advocate for help,
join us for an educational session and discussion led by Non-24 Nurse
Educator, Jennifer Lyman, R.N., B.S. The session will be held on Friday,
November 1, 2024 from 4:30 PM-5:30 PM. This is an excellent opportunity to
get informed and ask questions about how Non-24 may be affecting you or
someone you know.
