[Nfbmo] Braille teachers in OK?

Thanks, Susan. That's what I thought--that the school district was still
responsible for things like Braille, etc. I'll forward your response to
them. Or maybe you want to move to Tulsa? <G>

Dick:

I believe regulations for Braille teaching are set up by IDEA. This being
the case, you should find out what school district the family lives in.
Even though she goes to private school, the public school should provide
Braille instruction. They can't provide it during the school day, but they
can provide it. Soon after we came down here, I began providing instruction
for a child who went to Lutheran schools. He was in second grade at the
time, and I was still contained in his IEP well into high school. The IEP
was written with the public school in charge, and I not only taught Braille
but I also taught typing. We worked either before or after school. Since
we could not work at the school itself, we had to find another instruction
site. We worked at my home; his parents then picked him up and got him to
school. A public library would also work for an instruction site. These
are just ideas, but it might give you something to start from. Another
idea: I think I'm moving to Idaho next summer. The child's family could
always move to Boise and I'll teach her. How 'bout that?
