A Message from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services:

An emergency can occur anywhere with no warning and it does not take a wide-spread disaster to disrupt a community, a family or even an individual. A tornado can level an entire town, a fire can destroy an apartment complex or a water pipe break can force a family to leave their home with little time to prepare. Though these emergencies are common, they can pose serious health and life risks.

Large-scale disasters such as major storms, earthquakes and even severe disease outbreaks can also strike with little notice and with destructive, deadly consequences. In just the past five years, Missouri has received 21 disaster declarations from weather-related emergencies, and every county has been affected.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services urges residents to take steps during National Preparedness Month using Missouri's Ready in 3 emergency preparedness program.

The Ready in 3 program offers a wide variety of helpful information and tools on steps everyone should take to prepare for emergencies of all kinds. Ready in 3 resources are free and many are available in other languages and in Braille. They are available for ordering through the Ready in 3 website at www.dhss.mo.gov/Ready_in_3, or by calling 573.526.4768 to place an order by phone.
