MEDIA ADVISORY
House to Take Up Omnibus Disabilities Bill Wednesday
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - The Missouri House will consider legislation tomorrow,
April 13th that combines multiple disabilities-related bills heard in the
new Disabilities Service Committee chaired by Rep. Jeff Grisamore, R-Lee's
Summit.
The Omnibus Disabilities bill, House Committee Substitute for House Bill
555, contains 9 bills that have moved through the Disabilities Services
Committee since the new committee was appointed by Speaker Steve Tilley on
January 25th.
In creating the House Special Standing Committee on Disability Services,
Speaker Tilley said he wanted Chairman Grisamore to develop policies that
are responsive to concerns in the disabilities community.
"I never imaged that there would be a Special Committee on Disabilities in
the Missouri House. The fact that our legislators are debating issues of
public policy that impact people with disabilities demonstrates that our
citizens with disabilities are finally acknowledged as important
constituents and included in our communities," said Wendy Sullivan, CEO of
Life Skills in St. Louis.
Rep. Tim Jones, R-Eureka, the House Majority Floor Leader has scheduled HCS
HB 555 for floor debate tomorrow, April 13th. Individuals with disabilities
and advocates from throughout the state are planning to watch this historic
legislation on the House floor tomorrow, while many will be listening online
through the House website at www.house.mo.gov.
