Gary,
It is a good idea to put your phone on the do Not Call list - but that
will only stop the telemarketers who don't wish to violate that law -
numerous as they are.
Joining Do Not Call will bring into sharp relief spammers, phishers
and thieves who have no legitimate business but simply to fool you into
revealing financial and personal information to raid your bank account and
steal your identity.
All those calls from Cardmasters and Security systmes? They're
frauds - never give any information to anyone who calls you. If you have a
question about your account, call your vendor yourself.
Since their purpose is to break the law, they don't care about Do Not
Call, they have banks of auto-dialers that simply go through numbers. They
buy lists from phone number colectors - sometimes gathered from hacked
legitimate businesses such as Citinank and Sears.
It's worth your time and money to get talking caller-id. Never
answer a phone call from a number you don't recognize. If they are
legitimate, they wil leeave a message. You can also block such calls, depending on
your phone system and provider. Sprint allows you to block up to 50
numbhers. My home phone (Panasonic) allows me to block up to 10.
The Justice Department is aware of these scams and tries to stop them
but it is a difficult process - with some results, but not nearly enough.
Best advice don't return any calls that don't leave a message.
Dan

REMEMBER: Cell Phone Numbers Go Public this month.

REMINDER..... all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing

companies and you will start to receive sales calls.

.... YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:

888-382-1222.

It is the National DO NOT CALL list It will only take a minute of your

time.. It blocks your number for five (5) years.

You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You

cannot call from a different phone number.

HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON. It takes about 20 seconds.
