Greetings folks looks like we will be using a different hotel when
Springfield hosts the state convention in 2016

The Howard Johnson Inn and Conference Center on South Glenstone Avenue
in Springfield has been sold and will close Sept. 8, an attorney
handling the transaction for owner Morris Group Properties said today.
Brett Roubal of Baird, Lightner, Millsap & Harpool said that the company
headed by businessman Jim Morris is looking at phasing out its hotel
business as Morris looks at retirement.
Morris bought the hotel at 3333 S. Glenstone Ave. in 1993 and sold it to
a California investor group in 2008 as part of an owner-financed deal,
Roubal said. Morris ended up owning the property again in 2011 after a
foreclosure.
A decline in business over that time, along with increased hotel
competition and the poor economy, prompted the sale, Roubal said.
“The business [in 2011] was not near the business it was at when he sold
in 2008,” Roubal said.
Roubal said it was too early to confirm what the new buyer, who he
declined to name, would do with the site. He didn’t have an estimate of
the number of employees that will be affected by the closure, but did
say the company was working to place them at the Morris Group’s two
hotels in Branson — a Quality Inn and a Ramada Inn — if possible.
The business set to close is the only Howard Johnson in Springfield.
