Fred,
This is amazing!
a few questions I would want to know:
How good is the customer service record for Straighttalk?
Since there is no contract, the advantage is you can switch to any
provider you want - but it also offers no guarantees for maintaining the
price point of $45/month - is there some guarantee that it will stay at that
rate for a certain period (say a year) before it can change - or how much
can it be increased,/year?
What kind of national coverage does Straighttalk offer? I've
actually never heard of them, though it is now common for roaming charges to be a
think of the past.
Given that the iPhone offers connection both via cellular network and
wireless hotspot, this might not be an issue.
Their prices for the iPhone seem awfully high - I paid $299 for mine
from Sprint but that may have included a upgrade offer since I've been with
them for 15 years.
Like any of these good deals, you have to be absolutely vigilant
about making sure your payments are in on time. GE contracts, like most
store-related loan contracts, have steep penalties if your payment is even a
day late. Make sure that you know what the interest rate becomes if you
were to miss a payment - some of these cards can go up to 30%!!! And that
will also include any and all deferred interest charges so if you have a
$400 loan, at $25/month, it would take 16 months to pay off. If you were to
be late on the very last payment, you would then owe all the deferred
interest over the 16 month period - which even at 21% would be pretty hefty since
it's compound interest.
I regularly take part in such contracts - set up an automatic
payment from your bank to the loan provider and you'll do fine. Just read the
fine print.
All in all, this looks like a good deal - just have to make sure, as
always, that you have all the info you need.
Dan
PS: Fred, how would you describe the biggest advantages you've noticed
in moving from the iPhone 4 to the iPhone5?
