Project

Dear Gary:

I hope this email finds you doing well. I am writing to you to follow up
on the below message sent to you by President Joe Naulty of the National
Federation of the Blind Deaf-Blind Division. It is my hope that you will be
able to identify the Deaf-Blind in the State of Missouri and reach out to
them. From previous conversations with you, I know that you have already
made contact with one sweet lady who is losing her hearing and had already
lost her vision. I gave her the icanconnect information from
http://www.icanconnect.org <http://www.icanconnect.org/> . I have urged her
to apply for the equipment that would give her the freedom to be able to
more effectively communicate.

The process of reaching out the those inside and outside of the NFB who are
Deaf-Blind can sometimes be difficult simply because there are people who
don't realize that they can be identified as Deaf-Blind and qualify for
programs and services available to them. People who are blind and have
hearing impairment don't always know they are identifiable as "Deaf-Blind".

Please consider helping us by sharing this information with your affiliate.
We would like to hear from you. If you have any questions or concerns please
do not hesitate to contact me or President Naulty at any time. Thank you for
your support and cooperation.

Best Regards,

Tracie Inman

NFB Deaf-Blind Division

First Vice President

Is it really four weeks since Convention in Orlando?? Hard to believe, but
it is.

Since returning, we have been hard at work putting together a plan to move

Deaf-Blind projects forward. In the next year, prior to the 2014
Convention,

the Deaf-Blind Division is setting out to:

1 Identify more people with deaf-blind issues

2. Ensure all eligible people are aware of and have applied

for equipment under the iCanConnect program

3. At all times, respect privacy

4. Help people with deaf-blind concerns communicate with

     each other

5. Encourage membership in the N.F.B.

6. If so indicated, encourage a deaf-blind committee in each

     state

7. Ensure interested deaf-blind citizens understand the resources

available to them. They may need guidance in working with the

agencies responsible to provide their services

First We need your approval of this effort

Second We would appreciate names/addresses/e-mails so we

can make contact to determine the level of interest on

the part of each deaf-blind individual

We want to keep it simple

As we build this project, we have been fortunate to secure the volunteer
services of

the First Vice-President of the Deaf-Blind Division to work on the project
in each of

your five states.

Please meet and work with

Ms. Tracie Inman

Tracie will be contacting you in the next week or 10 days to determine your
level of

interest and what would be the best approach in each of your states. We
want to

move slowly and professionally. It is understood some people will be very
interested

and others not.

Perhaps, two exciting results will occur....your blind members and citizens
with hearing

loss will make new friends and gain knowledge of equipment/services
available..

It's all about empowermet ! !

I hope you share our excitment. We look to you for support of the
deaf-blind community

in each of your states. Please feel free to call or e-mail me with any
questions or concerns.

Tracie Inman will be contacting you soon.

Thank you.
