[Nfbmo] A message from your recording secretary

Hi all,

Four years ago, you elected me the recording secretary of the
affiliate. At the time, I knew little about the federation and knew
nothing of the secretary job. But you were patient with me and
allowed me to grow and learn in the position.

I believe that I have grown more as a person in the last four years
than I have in my entire life. My involvement with the federation
thus far has led to experiences, both within and outside the
affiliate, that teach me the value of mentoring others and educating
the community. As a national scholarship winner, I was mentored by
blind individuals, who are successful in their fields. They
encouraged me to realize my own potential as a student and performer.
I have worked at Jefferson City seminars, at the Mission Believe
Program, and on a variety of committees, including the Employment
Research Committee.

Now I am asking your support as I seek another opportunity to serve
you as a leader: it was indicated to me recently that the second vice
president position would be open this year. Although I have enjoyed
being the recording secretary, I would like a more active role on
affiliate committees and wish to have more opportunities to lead
committees, such as the one that designed last year's leadership
training seminar. I also hope to be in a position to mentor others as
I have been mentored in the federation. I believe that learning from
each other allows us to develop the skills we need to show the
community who we, the blind, truly are.

All those hopes and wishes to say that I plan to run for the second
vice president position this year, and I would definitely appreciate
your support. If you have any further questions for me, please feel
free to contact me with them. Thank you for all the kindness,
patience, and support you have given me as recording secretary over
the years. I am looking forward to many more working with all of you!
