Good morning. As you can see from the email I have forwarded to you, there will be a celebration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act held on October six. Since many of the independent living centers will be working on transportation for this event, it might be a wonderful way to demonstrate our enthusiasm for the act and to build some relationships. I encourage each chapter to look at going and participating in the October six event.

Hi Gary,

 

Thanks much for your time yesterday afternoon. Here's the written information about Hands Around the Capitol that I promised you, and the poster is attached.

 

Hands Around the Capitol will be a gathering of disability advocates from across the state on October 6th from 12-2 PM at the Capitol in Jefferson City. The speakers will include Gov. Nixon, past and current legislators, and youth and adult disability advocates. They will focus on these three topics: Legislative gains and the 25th Anniversary of the ADA, Youth Leadership, and Disability Employment and Awareness Month. After the speakers finish around 1 PM, we will gather in a circle around the Capitol for a moment of solidarity.

 

We have bottles of water for attendees, and may have a light snack/cookie as well. Please distribute this information to your chapters and ask them to coordinate with their local CILs to see if transportation is an option from their region.
