Today the Kansas City Chapter had its annual Walk for Independence in beautiful Loose Park. The Event was a success by any measure. It was well attended, we raised quite a bit of money for our Federation, and we had lots of good food and fun. President Wunder graced us with his presence. We were also pleased to be joined by members of our Old Drum Chapter as well as members of the Johnson County Kansas Chapter of the NFB of Kansas. This was yet another opportunity to show other park patrons that blind people are normal, that the only difference between us and then them is that we lack eyesight. We showed that the blind like anyone else enjoy getting together with friends and having chicken at the park on a beautiful Saturday. I was also pleased to have my mom and dad at the Walk. They got a chance to meet some of my NFB friends. They will be going to our chapter meeting next Saturday where they will get a chance to witness how the organized blind manage their own affairs.

As Meet the Blind Month in October approaches, keep in mind that it is not a bad idea to invite family members, friends, neighbors, co-workers, church members, etc, to our meetings and other events. These meeting and other events are not only for our benefit. They are a golden opportunity to tell the public our story, a story of challenges, and more importantly a story of triumph thanks to the NFB.

Best Regards
