Good explanation Holly. To further expand on the issue at hand. This legislation will not only impact folks that are on the CDS program but also impact people who receive traditional in home services, nursing care, respite care, etc. It goes deeper than cutting hours. In order to qualify for Home and Community Based Supports, a person has to meet a certain level of care which is an arbitrary need based assessment. The number of need is currently assessed at 21 points with the higher the number the higher the need. This legislation seeks to perminently raise the assessment number to 27 which will perminently remove thousands of people from these services. The lpossibility of people having to go into a nursing home or being at an increased risk of harm or death will increase substantially. If this does not affect you or someone you know right now, it is very possible that it will in the future. None of us are getting any younger.
Roger

Hi Gene,
The agency where I am doing my internship offers this program. Consumer Directed Services is a program where individuals who are physically disabled and have a certain medicade code are eligible to hire someone to do household management for them. They can get dishes done, errands ran, or meals prepared just to name a few options. The division of Health and sinior services determines each persons care plan and how many hours of services they receive each month. The agency then pays the attendants, which are the people hired by the disabled individuals. The agency is then reimbursed by medicade. I hope this expbanation is clear.
