I am so, so sorry to hear this. Mary was a gentle and kind soul while being 
very strong and determined. She showed true grace in dealing with Melvin as 
his health deteriorated. She and Melvin made Carol and I feel very welcome 
in the Jackson County chapter during our brief stay in Kansas City. Even 
though I haven't seen her in a long time I will miss her greatly.

When I joined the national Federation of the blind back in 1972, I was
encouraged to participate actively by Mary Willane. Many of you know her as
Mary Lewis. Mary has struggled for the last decade with an embolism and
repeated strokes. At 9:45 this morning she gave up the fight. I will provide
more information as I get it about funeral arrangements, and I will do what
I can to write an article for her that we may wish to run in the Blind
Missourian.
