I worry about the computer blue screen of death or loss of function of a sensor

I think we are assuming that a human will be more aware of that person darting out in front of them, and I suspect this isn't correct. The computer will always be on watch, and if an accident of this kind is avoidable, I'm willing to bet on the constantly on guard machine over the easily distractible human.
