Hi all,
Initial reaction is that such a requirement should not be there.
This discourages the blind from applying (this could be exact point, or it could be an oversight)
In either case, If it were me, I would apply if I thought that I could do the job and not worry about the driving requirement.
The blind have been teaching blindness skills or the alternative techniques of blindness for many many years, so qualified blind person can absolutely do the job and i think would do it better than a qualified sighted person.
While I agree that the blind person who is determined enough wouldn’t let the driving requirement deter them, I think that we all know someone in our lives that has seen a job that they would love to do, see the requirements and let those intimidating words keep them from applying.
I think about those folks and think about how helping others achieve what they think they can’t is at the heart of what we are and in what we do in the movement.
So if a person is strong at heart and looking for work then they should apply. But if they aren’t as strong, how can we help them become strong?
I know this is not news to anyone reading, and that’s why Share them as initial reactions.
Have a great day.
