[NFBMO] HB 2171 update

Dear Gary and all,

Just prior to offering her amendment, Representative Unsicker referenced
something to the affect of the "Council of the Blind doesn't like the bill."
Overall, there was little debate on the bill; in fact, Representative
Unsicker offered her amendment, Representative Wood indicated why he was
against it, and then the voice vote was taken which ultimately lead to the
amendment being defeated; then, they moved to "perfect" the bill ("perfect"
being the term used to indicate a legislation's initial approval.)

Good morning,

 

Just before 11:00 PM last night, the Missouri House gave initial approval to
HB 2171. The legislation needs one more vote before going to the Senate.
Yesterday's vote was a "voice" vote, rendering it impossible to tell who
voted for the bill and who did not. I believe, though, that the bill has
bipartisan support, given that Representative Unsicker, a democrat from St.
Louis County, stated that "this is a good bill"; having said that, after
making that statement, she offered an amendment, which was voted down-so I'm
not sure if that will affect her support for the legislation. I expect the
legislation to to be voted out tomorrow or Thursda; the vote at that time
will be a "recorded" vote.
