[NFBMO] Blind Pension Legislation

Somehow in an investigation, it was found that a certain number of blind pension recipients had drivers licenses, so I imagine it wouldn't be too difficult to implement investigating applicants to see if they have a license or state ID. I know it will never happen, but I would love to see the results of the investigation that supposedly prompted the creation of the bill. I can't help but wonder if the numbers weren't exaggerated ever so slightly. Then articles were written about it in various papers when the bill was created. I don't doubt that this stuff creates a certain amount of resentment of the blind by citizens who read the papers, and it's not as if people really do their research to find out what blind pension is all about before they make judgements when they see blind people out and about. And, this bill was one of a few attempts at retaliation against blind pensioners. It just happens to be the first one to be successful in passing.

Hello:

How would Fsd enforce the statute that you have to surrender your drivers license and get a State issued Id card.

Blind pension was never based on how much the blind individual made but rather your resources. So if you are spending what you are making and not holding over a certain amount in some sort of savings you are fine. I am sure Gene C. will correct me if I am wrong. The only down fall to this is, being able to save for a down payment on a home or putting away for your kids college education. However, we shouldn't complain too much and be happy we have what we have. The driver's license doesn't bother me because blind people shouldn't be driving. They should give you some time to switch forms of ID. Changing whether to give raises or not should remain the same after all I thought that is what started this whole thing in the first place, the figuring out of the payments.
