How to Fix Foggy Glasses Caused by Coronavirus Face Masks

Now that wearing a face mask is pretty much the norm across America, people
who wear glasses are noticing their lenses turn misty while they don
protection. Fortunately, there is a simple fix for foggy glasses.
Researchers say washing them with soapy water "immediately" before wearing
a face mask can prevent this problem.

According to Fox News, a 2011 study published in the Annals of the Royal
College of Surgeons in England revealed this easy technique. The experts
advise shaking off excess water and then "let the spectacles air dry or
gently dry off the lenses with a soft tissue before putting them back on.
Now the spectacle lenses should not mist up when the faced mask is worn,"
they wrote.

This works because the soapy water leaves a thin surfactant film on the
lens that causes the warm water molecules exhaled from your mouth to spread
more evenly across the surface into a transparent layer.

You could also spray your lenses with an anti-fog spray like the one used
by some swimmers to prevent their googles form becoming misty, according to
Newsweek.

Like soapy water, the spray helps prevent condensation which causes glasses
to fog up. If the spray causes skin or eye irritation, discontinue its use
immediately.

Another idea is securing the mask against your nose with items like bobby
pins, paper clips or pipe cleaners to make sure it fits tightly limiting
the amount of hot air exiting upwards, Newsweek reported.

Or, simply place a folded tissue at the top of your mask, against your
nose, and tape it securely so you do not have to touch your face to adjust
it. The tissue absorbs some of the air, decreasing the likelihood that your
lenses will fog up.
