Subject: [Chapter-Presidents] Corona Checker Tool-Accessible!

• Dear family,
As we endure these trying times, I want to send my love to you and your families. One of many of our frustrations is when a tool or project, whether medical or any other tech, is released without any consideration for accessibility for people with all disabilities or limitations. It is so disconcerting. It may be a visual impairment, so ensuring the product is screen reader friendly is pertinent. You have to also consider other limitations, such as reading literacy. Fr instance, data has shown that in the US, the average literacy rate is at an 8th grade level. Twelve percent of Americans read below a fourth grade level. SO, if a tool, medical records, medication instructions, or online guides are written above an 8th grade level, many will not be able to truly benefit and use the tool to its capacity.
This morning, the media pushed out info about a new Corona Checker Tool. My brother in law was behind much of its design. I was honored for him to reach out to me a couple of days ago; he wanted to ensure that all considerations for accessibility were addressed. I tested the checker, provided feedback, and last night tested the checker before its release this morning. I think it is a great tool to share with others. Check out the article and about how the checker works! It is nice to know that others do have the same passion for accessibility as we do! Let’s build the Federation!
