Hello All –

International Disability Day is Saturday December 3.

The Missouri Historical Society celebrates the 2022 International
Disability Day by hosting a virtual panel discussion on *Friday, December

experiences of various speakers regarding invisible disabilities.

Objectives:

   - Create awareness about invisible disabilities and challenges to
   address the needs.
   - Learn how to include people with invisible disabilities in the
   workplace.
   - Understand the role of history museums to educate the public about
   invisible disabilities

We hope you will join us for this informative presentation.

Many thanks to Hana Ayele for planning this event.

More about International Disability Day

The observance of the Day aims to promote an understanding of disability
issues and mobilize support for the dignity, rights, and well-being of
persons with disabilities. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to
be derived from the inclusion of persons with disabilities in every aspect
of political, social, economic, and cultural life. One billion people, or
15% of the world's population, experience some form of disability. In the
United States, there are around 61 million adults with disabilities. That
represents 26% of adults or 1 in 4 adults. Persons with disabilities are
more likely to experience adverse socioeconomic outcomes such as less
education, poorer health outcomes, lower levels of employment. Therefore,
the annual observance of International Disability Day encourages a better
understanding of people with disabilities, together with helping to make
people more aware of the rights, dignity, and welfare of persons with
disabilities as well as including them in every sector of the development
agenda. International Day of Persons with Disabilities recognizes visible
and invisible disabilities, to promote the importance of inclusion in life
and the workplace. In 2022, the theme for the International Day of Persons
with Disabilities is “Not All Disabilities are Visible.” So, this day gives
us the opportunity to further our knowledge and awareness about people with
invisible disabilities and how to include them in the inclusion
initiatives. United Nation’s Member States, civil society organizations and
the private sector organize their own events to celebrate the International
Disability Day to raise awareness and promote the rights and perspectives
of persons with disabilities around the world.
